PROGRAMS & PARTNERSHIPS FOR YOUR SCHOOL NWP-VT Study Group Partnership In the first year of a multi-year arrangement, NWP-VT organizes and facilitates a study group of educators at your school, beginning a new group, or working with Professional Learning Communities already in place. The group examines and determines the writing and instruction needs of the school by reading and researching together. This group then recommends programs (e.g. coursework, mentoring, continued study group work) for ongoing staff development in the school. Three Credit University Course: NWP-VT can bring a two or three credit university course to your school. Courses meet on site for the equivalent of 45 credit hours. Courses examine current research and trusted methods of teaching writing. To help address your specific needs, these can be custom designed by NWP and teacher leaders at your school. FOCUSED COURSES Reading Writing Connections This course examines the natural link between reading and writing and explores strategies for using writing to increase skill and competency, equipping students both for lifelong literacy and for local, state and national assessments. Teachers will explore texts and student work, and try out various strategies for responding to text, both fiction and non fiction, in both language arts and “content” classes. Writing Across the Curriculum/Writing in the Disciplines/ Content Literacy Writing in each major curricular area has the power to increase student learning, comprehension, and retention of subject matter. This course provides teachers with practical strategies for incorporating writing into all disciplines, helping students to use writing to learn, to experience and to present ideas in the forms expected by their various fields of study. WORKSHOP SERIES NWP-VT can create a workshop series of 6 to 12 sessions built around your needs. Teacher leaders from your school will meet with NWP-VT leaders to determine workshop topics that would best deliver instruction and research in areas of need for your teachers and students. Saturday Specials Once again, NWP will offer several Saturday sessions, focused on issues of interest to Vermont teachers.
